Today’s Mini Vespers comes from CMS counselors and sisters Ashby and Lucy Poindexter (and a very special guest).  As the summer draws to a close, they challenge us to think about lessons we have learned from camp in the past (or maybe from this summer’s Mini Vespers) and intentionally incorporate those lessons in our lives at home.

Poll: Naming Camp’s New Cabin: https://forms.gle/cVU5UpokZveNrpjZA

We broke ground on camp’s new cabin in the winter, and our builders made great progress before halting construction in April.  We plan to have the cabin finished in time for the JCs of 2021 to move in next summer, and as you can see, it is going to be huge.  Modeled after the cabins on Senior Hill, it will have two stories with stairs connecting them inside.  Since the JCs of 2020 would have been the cabin’s first occupants, we asked them to come up with some ideas for the cabin’s name, and now we need your input.  Use the link above to see the choices, and let us know which name you like the best.  We will reveal the official name soon.

CMS Olympic Torch Relay

Hello Hello Hello! Greetings everyone and welcome to the unofficial start to the 2020 Green/Buff Olympic season! While both the camp and Olympics have had to be canceled for the year, we will be hosting a week of virtual Green-Buff  team competitions starting Monday, July 20th and lasting through Sunday, July26th! As in Olympic years past, we will be holding an opening ceremony to begin the festivities, but we would love to have your help in making sure that the opening this year is extra special! We are asking that anyone (campers, alumnae, families, etc.) submit a video passing some type of torch-like object so that we can have our own Olympic torch relay! Much like the athletes who carry the Olympic flame from Olympia, Greece to its resting spot at the site of the Olympic Games, we would love to have the CMS torch to travel through as many of our hands as possible! If you wish to participate please film yourself (or a loved one, or a friend) grabbing a lit object from the right side of the frame and passing it outside the frame to the left. Once you have finished filming please submit it by email to greenbuff@campmontshenandoah.com and in the body of your email please tell us who is being filmed and where they are from! Video submissions will be due by Thursday, July 16th and will be compiled into a final torch passing video that will be sent out to mark the opening of our Olympic games on Monday, July 19th! we cannot wait to see what everyone comes up with and thank you in advance for your incredible submissions!

Video Submission Guidelines:

  • Please film videos in landscape (horizontal)
  • Grab the incoming torch from your right and hand it off to you left
  • Get creative 🙂
  • One finished please submit your video by email  to greenbuff@campmontshenandoah.com
  • In the body of your submission please tell us who is being filmed and where they are from

Virtual Devotions – Monday, July 13 – 8:00pm

Hello Camp Friends and Family! It has been a beautiful week around here at camp, though not having campers around is a very surreal experience. All of us counselors miss our campers dearly and would love to have a chance to catch up, talk, and hang out with all of you! With that being said, the counseling staff would like to invite all our campers to join us for a virtual Devotions at 8pm on Monday, July 13th! For parents who might not know, Devotions is a nightly meeting held by each cabin to check in with each other and to get ready for bed. Activities during devotions might include a story read by the counselors, rose-bud-thorn, a feelings check, or just some cabin chit chat! As devotions are usually held by cabins, we have created individual zoom meetings for different age groups so that we will be able to mimic general cabin group sizes. We hope everyone can make it, and we cannot wait to see y’all tomorrow night!

We live within a world of love, Till we meet again…

It’s another beautiful day at Camp Mont Shenandoah, but it is mighty quiet here in Millboro Springs!  We are sad not to have the sounds of campers’ laughter and singing to fill the air this summer, and we cannot wait to welcome back CMS girls of all ages for camp’s 95th summer in 2021!

While we are apart this summer, we want to bring the Spirit of Camp Mont Shenandoah into your homes to remind you all that despite our distance, we are all connected through our shared experience as CMS girls.  Throughout the month of July, the outstanding staff of 2020 will share virtual programming with you all through Facebook, Instagram (@cms1927), Vimeo (@cms1927), the CMS website  and email.  We are excited to share uplifting messages, camp memories, and songs from CMS staff and alumnae, counselor talent spotlights, a t-shirt design contest, Vespers, Devotions, Christmas in July, Wishing Boats, Final Banquet, and much more!

We are so grateful for the love and support that we have felt from all of the members of the Camp Mont Shenandoah community, near and far, over the past several months. We hope that you know how precious you are to all of us, and we hope you always remember these words from the song “Crimson Sunset”:

We live within a world of love, Till We Meet Again…

Sincerely,

Ann Warner, Director
