Cowpasture Chronicle

End of Week 5

On Sunday morning, the 15 year olds shared their favorite quotes during church and connected them to their growth throughout the years. Hearing from seasoned campers who have spent many years here learning and growing is always special on Sunday mornings, and the quotes offered wisdom to everyone listening.

The archery range was bustling on Monday morning during the archery tournament. Everyone did a great job, and the Buffs won! The afternoon was filled with excitement after the counselors announced the dance with Camp Rivers Bend. After dinner, we all headed just down the road and had a great dance with the boys. As the sun set over the mountains, CRB lit off fireworks, and we ended the night singing our classic dance songs to each other.

We had a very nice visit from the Cowpasture River Preservation Association and Headwaters Down on Tuesday morning. They presented a documentary film about their work and even had some girls help test water in our own part of the river to further explain how their work helps our natural ecosystem. It was very educational and gave us even more reason to shout, “We love the river!” That night, the bandanas and non-bandanas gathered on the green for the most competitive evening activity here at camp (we take it very seriously). Capture the Flag was an intense competition full of strategy, full-sprints, and deck tennis throws. Campers and counselors across all ages banded together to take down the other team. I can guarantee every camper went to bed very easily that night.

On Wednesday night we held our third Honor Meet of the season. The Buffs won for the past 10 days, and we celebrated each girl who had been chosen as an Honor Camper, was awarded for an activity, and even passed a rank in archery. Congratulations to all our girls for their achievements!

I cannot believe how little time is left as we are coming to the end of Week 5!

Until next week,

Sophie

Highlights of The Week

The 3rd Honor Meet was a chance to recognize the Greens and the Buffs for their hard work.  It was also a chance to celebrate individual girls and cabins for their accomplishments.

Though the Buffs were victorious for the past 10 days, anything can happen!
