Our first few days here at CMS have been full of all the best things: a great opening campfire, some highly entertaining cabin skits, the first few days of activities for the summer, and some immaculate service in Junior Row Spas. This year, some fan-favorite activities are returning to camp after a few years off! Our campers are so excited to start knitting on the back porch of the office and cooking in Cabell Cottage after eagerly awaiting their return. Also on Saturday Night, our campers were surprised and thrilled to learn that our musical this year will be Shrek! Sunday morning, the counselors hosted church, advising by writing letters to their cabins based on the counselor values that were decided on during pre-camp: Be inclusive, be open-minded, and be supportive. This was followed by musical auditions, our first outdoor dinner, the announcement of the musical cast list, and cabin skits.
The JCs ran an amazing initiation Monday night, stationed around camp, reciting the 12 laws of woodcraft before rejoining the rest of camp to read out forfeits. On Tuesday after lunch, new campers read out their lists of what Disney princesses the JCs would be, performed the Whip and Nae-Nae, showed off their costumes, and even delivered their best evil laugh.
Tuesday Night was full of high emotion as it was the first Team Night of the season! New campers found out what team they were on, and all of the camp participated in the cheering that could be heard all the way from West Lodge to the Barn. The elected team leaders are as follows: For Buffs, Captain: Louise Shegda, Sponsor: Finley Haas, Songleader: Lilly Scott Anway, Cheerleaders: Brynne Wrinkle and Grace Wadlow. For Greens: Captain: Virginia Parrish, Sponsor: Vera Pennington, Songleader: Kiersten Ring, Cheerleaders: Stuart Lewis and Louise Morgan. The CMS community is full of pride and excitement to see these deserving individuals step into these new roles. Congrats to all!
The 2026 camping season is off to an amazing start. We can’t wait to see what the summer will bring!
