The Sixth week came to a close on Friday night and Saturday morning. We were so sad to see all of our campers go, but we waved with the bittersweet feeling of a summer well spent. This week was packed to the brim with traditions and activities to wrap up the summer.
On Wednesday we had Wishing Boats which is one of my favorite traditions here at camp. Each camper, counselor, staff member and spirit of camp is given a small bark boat with a lit candle. You are meant to make a wish on the boat and if your boat makes it to the rapids still lit then it is said that your wish will come true. The scene is always beautiful, we start when it gets dark so that each small flame creates a radiant contrast against the dark river.
Thursday we had our last full day of activities and each class savored their last few moments together. That night we gathered on Vesper Hill for our Awards Campfire and counselors passed out their plaques for the most outstanding campers in each activity.
Finally, with some joy and sadness Friday arrived. We spent all day packing and organizing for a smooth move out the next day and preparing for the exciting night ahead. Counselors hosted the long-awaited Final Banquet at dinner and this year’s theme was Peter Pan! All summer counselors work on murals, songs, decorations, and a skit secretly and reveal their work on the last night of camp. It was a magical night and it was a wonderful way to spend some of our last hours together celebrating a great summer. After dinner, we made our way to Vesper Hill for the last time this summer for the Final Honor Meet where we ceremonially recognize exceptional campers and counselors. The results are below:
Camp Spirit: Virginia Parrish
Counselor Award: Lily Caldwell
Buff Team Spirit: Bea Dadd
Green Team Spirit: Molly Nielson
These awards are such a high honor here at CMS and this night was such a great way to end the summer celebrating successes and enjoying the company of the people we love most around us. It has been such a joy being able to share about camp with you this summer and we are so thankful for each moment that we had this year.
Sincerely,
Sophie T
